Celebrating Feelings that Love Gives Us

Everyday, love is manifested, shared and celebrated. But on Valentine’s Day, everyone gives thanks and gives tribute to love and the different feelings it gives them in their own ways. Others celebrate it with those whom they share their feelings of happiness, gratefulness and love with – either their partner, family, closest friends, church or community, while others choose to immerse themselves in the hurt they’ve experienced because of love, alone or with others who share their pain.

Here’s a Tagalog poem that gives tribute to all the people who’ve loved and the different feelings of love. It’s called “Mangyari Lamang” (“Please”) by Rico Abelardo.

Mangyari Lamang
Rico Abelardo

Mabuhay tayong lahat
Na nagsisikap makabalik sa ating pinagmulan

Manatiling masaya at higit sa lahat
Magpatuloy sa pagmamahal.

Please

To all those who are in love, please stand.
So that love may manifest itself
Through sweetness and deep and shared understanding
To those who do not see.

To all those who’ve loved and lost, please stand.
So that all may see a hero’s wounds
And all may feel the bitterness of defeat
While celebrating bravery and sacrifice
Unparalleled by any other.

To all those who are wary of loving, please stand.
So that all may see a person’s nature
And the struggle to confront genuine feelings
By a heart that grew in fairytale-like fantasies

To all those who have loved, were loved and were left,
But are ready to love again, please stand.
So that all may see the richness of experience and truth
And give meaning to tears shed in the dark.

And to those who remain seated, please exit
Through the open door.
Go home,
And blame your parents
For raising a monster.

And to those who are left standing,
Kiss each other and embrace the wounded.
Long live all of us who’ve loved
And are in the pursuit of returning to the One.

Remain joyous, and most of all,
Continue loving.

 HAPPY DAY OF LOVE EVERYONE!
